Plants of the Week – July 25

Rudbeckia nitida 'Herbstsonne' in Nason Rudbeckia nitida ‘Herbstsonne’ is one of several coneflowers growing in the Nason Garden. Sturdy stems support numerous yellow flowers. The hardy perennial can reach heights of 7’ and is a favorite nectar source of Monarch butterflies.  Site in full sun and divide clumps every 3 years to retain vigor. Photo credit: J. Coceano

Ginkgo biloba 'Saratoga' (1) JWCGinkgo biloba ‘Saratoga’ is a male cultivar with a distinct central leader. ‘Saratoga’ produces deeply lobed foliage which turns a vibrant golden-yellow in the autumn. Cissus discolor Wister Center (2) JWC Grow Cissus discolor where you can appreciate the metallic-patterned leaves and where it can climb up or spill over. A favorite container plant at the Scott Arboretum, C. discolor is used in both containers and Burle baskets.  Provide partial shade to avoid sunburned leaves. Photo credit: J. Coceano
