Within 30 miles of Philadelphia, there are nearly 40 public gardens–this makes the greater Philadelphia area America’s Garden Capital. Experience gardens near and far with this new series for Associates of the Scott Arboretum. Pack your America’s Garden Capital passport and let’s go!
Our first garden of the series is Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens, located in Devon, Pennsylvania. Jenkins maintains a collection of trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and ferns in a tranquil, naturalistic landscape. Jenkins also features an accredited, world-class collection of rhododendrons and azaleas from across the globe. The Arboretum comprises 48 acres of gardens and woodland, with 1.2 miles of trails. The history of the Scott Arboretum and Jenkins are linked: their first Director, Leonard H. Sweetman, was previously the Assistant Director of the Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College for several years. Spring is a special time to visit this garden and you will not want to miss the early-blooming rhododendrons and spring ephemerals. Their expert horticulture staff will lead our group on a private guided tour of the seasonal highlights.
