Gardens and Tonic: Part Two: Lost Horizons, Redefining Boundaries

Linda Pastorino is back to tell us the comeback story of her garden after its devastation and eight years of having to fend for itself. She will show her step by step process of taking back the garden and will share her newly envisioned plan and the steps needed to reach her goal. Through this we will learn about her changed perspectives for her reimagined garden while at the same time being presented with new and concerning pest issues, financial hardship, and budget concerns. Gardeners will learn from Linda how to use these challenges to their advantage as well as how to create an environmentally friendly and innovative design plan. Interactive discussions are welcomed, as gardeners benefit best from advice from others. Please note this Gardens and Tonic will NOT be recorded.

Linda Pastorino is a multimedia artist, designer, and ethnographic art dealer whose work defies the boundaries of the esoteric and maximalist values. After graduating from Parsons School of Design in the late 70s, she established her own fashion brand called Images of Change. This, in addition to her travels, influenced her to begin collecting cultural oddities and selling antiques which helped develop her keen eye for aesthetics. She began using gardening as her canvas after a trip to the United Kingdom in the 1990s. It was here where her appreciation for historical gardens and properties flourished. Relocating to New Jersey in 1999 Linda acquired a two-acre property where over the next 15 years she sought to transform its overgrown landscape into a collector’s paradise. She drew inspiration from gardens of the Georgian and Victorian periods and began attending Garden Conservancy Open Days, taking cues from Chanticleer, George Schoellkopf, and Michael Trapp, while acquainting herself with all things garden. Since then she has been a member of the Chester Garden Club, the Home Garden Club of Morristown, the Rock Garden Society, and the Membership Chair for the Friends of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Linda’s most notable work includes the redesign of the historical Acorn Hall for the Garden Club of Morristown, Burani Garden, Christ Science Church Morristown, among others. Her tabletop and floral arranging designs have been shown at the Montclair Art Museum and Morristown Museum of Art. She is a recipient of first-place awards for plant-based artwork at the New Jersey State Flower Show. Last but not least, Linda has been a speaker on specialized topics in the fields of ethnographic jewelry and costume, Asian and European decorative arts, historical design relating to the garden, interiors and tabletop design, as well as personal collecting habits.
