April Fools

“On my way to my daily 7:30 breakfast appointment (before my 8:30 shift at the Arboretum) I encountered this strange art/prank/reinterpretation: Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” superimposed on “Sappho” outside of Sharples Dining Hall. April Fool’s Day is, without question, my favorite holiday, and it was a pleasant surprise to find the work of another prankster.” Comments and photos are by Greg Albright, Swarthmore College student worker for the Scott Arboretum.

April Fools antics are a tradition among the students of Swarthmore College. We found this antic was done in good fun and it did not jeopardize the art piece. “Sappho” can be seen lounging among the spring blooming Spiraea thunbergii ‘Mellow Yellow’ and Narcissus ‘Ice Follies’ on the cover of your 2008 spring Hybrid. Experience “Sappho” during all seasons outside the Sharples Dining Hall near the paperbark maple grove.
