Gardens and Tonic: Preparing Your Fall Gardening for Pollinators

Join Heather Andrews to learn about maximizing the spring yield of your garden and to provide habitat for wildlife going into the winter months. Your garden can be an oasis for pollinators all year by implementing “shoulder season” plantings and Heather will walk us through the steps to do this in a beautiful way!
Heather Andrews is a published author, photographer, traveler, and speaker who routinely works with homeowners and businesses to create sustainable native pollinator habitats. She encourages gardeners to provide wildlife habitat and fuel for native pollinators and improve vegetable yield with pollinator hedgerows and corridors. A graduate of Oglethorpe University in Georgia, Heather combines information from her day job as a clinical researcher to guide her messaging. During the growing season, you will find her in her monarch waystation, Cat-a-pillar Haven, videoblogging her garden on her facebook page, the thoughtful gardener. She often sends milkweed seeds to gardeners throughout North America to help create host plants for the endangered monarch butterfly. During the pandemic, gardening became the # 1 hobby, and she sent over 30 packages of various seeds to gardeners who could not find a supply. Her garden was recently awarded the “Garden of Distinction” in 2020 by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and her photographs and articles have been featured in magazines. Her proposal “The resurgence of pollinator hedgerows-using science to create a pollinator oasis in your own backyard” was accepted at the 2021 International Master Gardeners Conference. Gardens and Tonic is a series of virtual webinars with horticulture professionals. Grab your favorite beverage and join Julie Jenney from the Scott Arboretum and a featured horticulture professional for plant-related topics, adventures, and stories – as well as design-focused talks on private and public gardens. Time will be set aside to answer your questions. Registration is free but required. Participants must have Zoom downloaded on their computer and be comfortable using it. The webinar link will be included in the confirmation email received after registering online.
